Orchid Mantis (ft. Kera Krause & Caleb Behm)

from Accepting Your Affinity by Southpaw Sonata

/

about

“'Orchid Mantis' is named after an insect that disguises itself as a flower to attract prey. This seemed like a good comparison to how people in power make themselves look gracious when they basically want to eat you. We all feed into these ideas of the bigger picture and what's best for society and sometimes lose sight of things that matter like compassion and community.”
-Kera Krause

Fun Fact: We gave Kera the demo and song name and let her go wild. She did an amazing job writing about something we all feel and connect with deeply. This song represents the first attack on ego and negativity in the transition. Pursue your passions and career, but never put them before being a good person and doing good things.

lyrics

\\\\\Orchid Mantis/////

Hiding in the guise of something beautiful
To lure the weak minds into their mandible, such camouflage

Such selfish thoughts they tried to set us down this path
We're all just costs and benefits
They better get their dividends
Such shallow thoughts in minds like this
Where money comes before all risks and just to be a part of it
We let them kill the heart of it

I'm afraid that we're losing the point of it all
Falling in love with the feeling so small and what's the excuse
We're all so much bigger than you

The excuses they never end
No time to look through a thicker lens
Sit pretty and take this disinformation
Sit calm in silent complacence
